This week is Women and Girls Golf Week with England Golf focussing on the ladies side of the game. Some people are lucky enough to be surrounded by golf courses dotted all over the country, but surprisingly few try the game held back by the stigma that this is a sport for old people, with certain clothes style, a sport for the elite … and not a sport for the young and women.
Here at The Point we are passionate about golf and want to show everyone what a fun sport this is. Bryony Billson came to try it out and this is her take on golf at The Point – SEE THE VIDEO.
If style and looks is your concern then no need to worry, golf clothing has changed and is now very much in line with the fashion industry. You can choose your style from bright colours to simple classics. Golf shoes are no longer black clumpy leather hoofs, they come in any style from fashionable brogues to colourful trainer style slip ons. Our Pro Shop sells a range of stock from Calvin Klein, Adidas, Ping, FootJoy, Under Armour to our own branding.
Article on the England Golf website has lots of information about golf and this week stories of women in the game; some famous and some just passionate and why they golf.
We have our own passionate Golf girl here at The Point. Elizabeth (Libby) Lehan is 25 and now Golf Manager running the golf department at The Point. Libby started playing at a very young age with her family and this is what Libby says about golf:
Playing golf has always been part of my life. This girl has always golfed. From a young age I took part in Saturday morning coaching with friends and after school games with family.
I fell into work life in the golf industry, with my first job being the Saturday girl at the local club. I stayed on working in my spare time earning my pocket money throughout secondary school and education. After completing a Business Management degree at Plymouth University, I was able to turn my hobby into a career here at The Point which in turn lead to the Golf Manager job. I simply love it!
5 years later and I still feel lucky and truly proud of my role and our club! No work day is the same with a career in our industry. Team Point is a great team and our club is on an upward trajectory. Golf is for everyone and our club truly encourages golf to move with the times; be modern, inclusive and forward thinking.
Here’s to the next 50 years in our industry and seeing other young women grab the opportunities our sport has to offer.
