Wondering which beaches to visit during this year’s summer holidays? Here are some of our favourites in North Cornwall with some helpful information about the facilities at each. All within a stones throw of The Point…

Polzeath

Great for families and surfers alike, Polzeath is a beautiful sandy beach just north of the Camel Estuary. One of the safest beaches on the northern coast, Polzeath has a Blue Flag award and offers seasonal lifeguard cover. Visit at low tide, when the beach extends nearly half a mile in all directions – when the tide comes in, there’s hardly any beach at all.

Parking

There are several convenient car parks, including one on the beach itself.

Facilities

  • Disabled access/sand chair hire
  • Toilets/showers
  • Nearby cafes/shops
  • Dog-friendly between Oct 1 and Easter Day

Things to do

  • Surfing
  • Rock pooling
  • Bird watching

Distance from The Point: 5-minute drive

Lundy Bay

A small, sheltered cove around the headland from Polzeath, Lundy Bay has a beautiful sandy beach that’s accessible at low tide. With numerous rock pools to explore, it’s ideal for families with young kids (although getting onto the beach involves a bit of a hike from the car park).

Small National Trust car park (that fills up quickly on sunny days).

  • Dog-friendly between Oct 1 and Easter Day
  • No toilets or lifeguard cover

Things to do

  • Rock pooling

Daymer Bay

A long, sandy beach with lovely views across the Camel Estuary, Daymer Bay is bordered by sand dunes that give it a secluded feel. The beach is safe for swimming and has excellent water quality, although there is no lifeguard cover. Daymer is popular with dog walkers because it is dog-friendly all year round and has great coastal walks within a short distance of the beach.

Rock

Situated opposite the upmarket fishing port of Padstow on the east side of the Camel Estuary, Rock Beach is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty and offers a long stretch of fine white sand backed by dunes. If you’re interested in celebrity culture, Rock is a likely place for spotting some of Britain’s famous faces, including the occasional royal. Popular among yachtsmen, windsurfers, and jet skiers, the beach is perfect for water sports, although swimming can be dangerous due to strong currents and steeply shelving sand.

Parking

Car park next to the beach and some road parking
