Friday August 23rd – Saturday September 8th 2019
Our great team of local chefs have a passion for seafood specials and locally caught food. The last week of August and first week of September we are celebrating delicious lobster caught right off our coastline. These dishes will feature on our Specials Board alongside our normal menu. Where better to enjoy delicious food, a glass of chilled white wine along with the stunning views to Pentire and beyond.
This years menu can be found here – Lobster Festival Sample Menu.
Cornwall has the longest coastline of any County in the UK at 326 miles, there are 40 ports and hundreds of brave local fisherman. The Lobsters are mainly caught using pots (within a 6 mile limit), which are baited and lowered to the seabed. There are many local by laws that protect the stocks of lobsters and it is illegal to land berried females from within the 6 mile limit in Cornish waters.
You might also be interested to read more about the local lobster industry; the Cornwall Good Seafood Guide website has a lot of information as well as the Padstow based National Lobster Hatchery website, a marine conservation, research and education charity.
The National Lobster Hatchery is best known for their lobster stock enhancement programme where they grow on baby lobsters from egg through their most vulnerable stage of their life cycle and release them back into the wild around Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, with the help of local fishermen and dive groups.
