2020 was a year like no other and presented the nation, including Cornwall, with some huge challenges. Restrictions on the movement of people and socialising meant that many couldn’t travel abroad or indeed even to the South West this year with friends or family.
If you’ve missed your fix of Cornwall lately, fear not. We’ve picked out some free to view TV series that document Cornwall’s rich variety of geography, gastronomy and culture as well as intriguing insights into what lies ahead for our beautiful county following the challenges of 2020.
Rick Stein’s Cornwall – BBC 2, 6:30pm every weekday for 3 weeks from 4th January (15 episodes)
In a new series from Rick Stein he reveals the Cornwall that he knows and loves. With his famous natural inquisitiveness, Rick shares the road less travelled – championing the food, history, music, art and culture of the county. Cornwall with Simon Reeve – BBC iPlayer (2 episodes)
He may be known for his intrepid and investigative overseas travels, but Simon Reeve turned his sights closer to home in his latest TV series, with some particular features on Polzeath and the areas local to The Point.
The presenter travelled through Cornwall during a 2020 summer like no other. As the county was emerged from the spring lockdown, the pandemic had thrown up so many questions about Cornwall and the future of tourism and industry in the region, as well as its people as well as what lies ahead.

Cornwall Air 999 – discovery +, free to view (10 episodes)
Cornwall Air 999 delivers a first-hand look at the lifesaving charity, as cameras follow the team of critical care paramedics and pilots on the Cornwall Air Ambulance.
The critical care teams are seen in the action, fighting to save lives during 2020 in the remotest parts of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The series features some stunning views as the crew fly to incidents – Which spots will you recognise?. Watch on Discovery +.

Cornwall and Devon Walks with Julia Bradbury – ITV1 Weds 6th January – 8:30pm (8 episodes)
The presenter walks through the two most westerly counties, which boast more than 5,000 miles of footpaths, from the rugged rocks of Dartmoor to the picturesque port of nearby Padstow. Keep an eye out for some familiar sights in the Camel estuary in episode 2 when Julia visits Padstow.
