Celebrating our 2020 Winners and Champions

A NOTE FROM JEREMY ON BEHALF OF THE GOLF TEAM

Welcome to our second and I am sure our last Virtual Presentation Evening,

Good Evening and welcome to our second and hopefully last Virtual Presentation Evening.

I would like to start by congratulating all our 2020 Prize winners.

With everything crossed, I really hope that we are at last looking at the dreaded virus in our rear view mirror. We cannot be complacent but the jab certainly appears to be working so far. This year’s lockdown, through the winter months was especially tough on a lot of people but since reopening in late March, the club has gone from strength to strength.

Both Eva and I are enormously grateful for all the work that the team at The Point have put in during these challenging times. Firstly, the greenkeepers, ably led by Tom Collings, who we kept on throughout lockdown. They worked tirelessly clearing the course and tidying everything , it is a much improved course to the one we inherited in 2012. We still have work to do and there are plenty of projects in the pipeline. Secondly, we would like to thank Libby for unstinting drive and enthusiasm. It is amazing that this year we have attracted more new members than we started with in 2012, this is without doubt in large part down to the warm welcome that everyone receives when they arrive at The Club. Thirdly we would like to thank Ross and the front of house team and the kitchen, who have managed their way through an incredibly difficult time over the last 18 months. They like everyone at The Point, have a ‘Can Do ‘ attitude. Lastly but by no means least we would like to thank you the members, without whom we would not have a Club, we would not have the laughs and the general bonhomie. Your warm welcome is enabling us to grow the Club and continue our investment programme, thank you for your continued support.

Thank you also to Jean and Nigel for their leadership throughout last year, we have lost a lot of events but we still have smiling faces and that is very much down to your leadership. We would like to wish Pete and Mel Clare the best of luck in their roles as Captain of the Seniors and Ladies respectively alongside Scott Chandler our Club Captain, we wish them well for the rest of their year.

Tom O’Donnell – we are delighted to welcome Tom on board. Tom is well known to many of you having run John Bray’s Holiday Rental business for the last 10 years. Tom joins us as Managing Director and will hopefully take a lot of the day to day responsibilities off Eva and myself while also continuing to grow the business especially on the property management side. Tom lives in Rock, is a keen golfer and a frequent user of the Heath Club. He is married to Michelle , who runs the Nursery Stores in Rock with her father and they have four children. If you have not met Tom please make an effort to introduce yourself to him please.

One note of sadness, Cliff Markham known to many of you passed away peacefully last week. Cliff fought his illness with great dignity and never complained, he will be missed by many and our thoughts are with Jill and his family.

As always there are a couple of Admin issues, please can everyone make sure they play quickly and if the group behind you are pressing please let them through. Pitchmarks – we are very proud of our greens and it would help the greenstaff enormously if you could repair your pitchmarks and any others you might see. Signage – I am very aware that there will be a lot of people in Cornwall this summer, we are currently  going through a rebranding process and as soon as this is complete, there will be plenty of signs on the course. In the meantime thank you for your patience.

Have a lovely virtual evening, congratulations to our prize winners. Stay safe and on the fairways.

Below we have tabled all our prize winners that would normally be congratulated with a round of applause and cheering but sadly on this occasion this isn’t to be. Please take a moment to read through and acknowledge some great achievements from 2020. Could all prize winners to pop into the office to collect their prize (if you haven’t already received it) and the respective trophy.

Best Wishes,

Jeremy Davies
