Top things to do with the kids in Cornwall this summer

As a parent, the summer holidays can sometimes seem as though they’re never-ending. Fortunately, Cornwall has a ton of family-friendly activities and attractions that will keep the whole brood entertained all summer long. Ensure you never hear the dreaded words, “I’m bored” again with this year’s unmissable events.

Eden Project: Expedition Space

With soft play areas, climbing frames, and England’s longest zip wire, the Eden Project already has plenty of activities to keep the kids entertained. This summer, it also offers visitors an all-new space adventure that will launch children (and their imaginations) on an intergalactic mission where they can blast off on a journey to Mars, try their hand at mini golf on Mercury, and come face to face with a mysterious alien visitor. Expedition Space runs between July 21 and Sept 2 and is included in the price of admission.

Rockpooling at Polzeath

Just a short distance from The Point, Polzeath Beach is a sandy, west-facing beach that’s perfect for families looking for a relaxing day at the seaside. Challenge the kids to look for crabs or rare Celtic sea slugs in one of the many rock pools around the bay. You can potter along the shore by yourselves or join marine experts, conservation volunteers, and National Trust rangers on an organised Rockpool Ramble. See the Polzeath Marine Conservation website for dates and booking info.

Tintagel Castle: Hands on History

Your kids will never complain about history lessons again after seeing them brought to life at Tintagel Castle. Famously linked with the legend of King Arthur, Tintagel offers the chance to explore 1500 years of fascinating history in a stunning coastal setting. Between July 25 and Aug 31, kids can participate in a series of have-a-go activities linked to the myths and legends that permeate the castle grounds. Visit on a Wednesday to combine your trip with one of the children’s activities put on by Tintagel Old Post Office over the school summer holidays.

Character Days at Camel Creek

Camel Creek Adventure Park is a favourite day out for the whole family. Set in 111 acres of Cornish countryside, it offers family-friendly rides, indoor and outdoor play areas and animal encounters. This summer, treat your kids to a visit on one of the park’s character days and watch their faces light up when they meet their favourite television heroes. Celebrity guests include Chase and Skye from Paw Patrol and Peppa Pig.

Port Isaac Treasure Hunt Trail

A walking tour of Port Isaac may not appeal to young adventurers, but a Treasure Trail is guaranteed to fire their imaginations! Follow the self-guided trail route and solve clues along the way to discover the location of the buried treasure – you can even enter a monthly prize draw for the chance to win some real booty! The Treasure Trail takes about 1.5 hours to complete and begins at the car park between Port Isaac and Port Gaverne.

Looking for a place to stay with the kids on your Cornish summer vacation? The Point has an excellent range of self-catering accommodation within a short distance of all these attractions and many more family-friendly days out. Book your stay today.
