Summer is here and there’s no place better to be than Cornwall for fans of live music, delicious fresh food, glorious long evenings, and beachfront pubs. Here are some of this summer’s unmissable events.
Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival: 14- 16th June
Described as the largest free festival of maritime music on the planet, the event kicks off on the Friday evening with singing on Custom House Quay and in Events Square, continuing at several other venues in town until the late, late hours of Sunday night!
Eden Sessions, 20th June – 3rd July
With an impressive line-up of stars, many of this year’s Eden Sessions have already sold out, however there are still a few tickets remaining for some dates. This year sees Eden host it’s 100th session, and to mark the occasion, Nile Rogers & Chic will be performing. Other acts playing this summer include Stereophonics, Liam Gallagher, The Chemical Brothers, Snow Patrol and Kylie Minogue. Jam along to some of your favourite bands in front of the incredible Eden Biomes. The venue is just a 45-minute drive from The Point.
Port Eliot Festival, 25-28th July
Originally a literary festival, Port Eliot is now more of a giant garden party featuring everything from live music to stand-up comedy routines to culinary demonstrations from some of Cornwall’s top chefs. Set in the grounds of the fabulous Port Eliot Estate (about an hour’s drive from The Point), the festival is a family-friendly summer event with something that will appeal to everyone.
Leopallooza Festival, 26-28 July
The very first Leopallooza, back in 2006, was meant to be a one-off, a party for friends of farmer’s son Lee Ellis which would provide somewhere for his own band to play. A lot has changed, but not the original spirit of this unique event. Since its inception, Leopallooza has played host to hundreds of bands, DJs and artists but remains a festival built by festival lovers with everything handpicked by a small team. The festival site in a hidden, tree-filled Cornish valley, just a few miles from the sea, is family friendly for the three days and nights.
St Endellion Summer Music Festival, Port Isaac: 30th July-9th August
Internationally famous festival. Symphony orchestra and a chorus of 75, with guest artistes, encompasses the classics from Brahms to Stravinsky, music from Broadway and late-night brass bands.
Polzeath Beer & Music Festival, 2-3rd August
OUR VERY OWN BEER AND MUSIC FESTIVAL – Launched by The Point in 2013 as a small charity event, the Polzeath Beer Festival was an instantaneous hit and has doubled in size every year since. With this year’s line-up including top Cornish talent Tank Slapper, GO GO Skank, Grizzly Millions and The Roustabouts Collective, as well as a host of fun kids’ activities, multiple bars and food outlets, 2019’s festival will be bigger and better than ever. Boardmasters Festival, 7-11th August
A must for all surfers, skaters, and live music fans, the ever-popular Boardmasters Festival returns to Newquay’s Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay for another epic 5-day summer event. This year’s line up includes Florence and The Machine, Wu-Tang Clan, The Wombats, Jorja Smith, Razorlight and Dizzee Rascal, to name just a few.
Cornwall Folk Festival, Wadebridge 22nd – 26th August
With acts from across the world, this long running festival takes over the town of Wadebridge offering music on every corner. The Unthanks and Steve Knightly are amongst those appearing this year.
The Little Orchard Cider & Music Festival, Perranporth: 13th -15th September
A three-day event fusing live music, secret cider walks, tractor rides and glamping in hobbit huts, Little Orchard Cider & Music Festival has quickly become one of the most magical experiences in the Cornish calendar. The Zutons, Reef and the Wurzels will headline this year.
Looe Live!, Looe: 20th – 22nd September
It’s the last of the summer festivals in a dramatic, magical location. Enjoy music on the main stages or just soak up the atmosphere around the town, Visit for the day, or stay all weekend. Cornwall’s very own Fisherman’s Friends are headlining on the Sunday, Level 42 on the Saturday.
